9:30am - 10:00am: Registration

10:00am - 11:00am: Mature and Transfer Student Welcome and Panel Discussion
The purpose of this panel is to provide incoming Mature & Transfer students with an opportunity to hear from and connect with staff, faculty, and peers ahead of classes to learn about key campus supports and services. We hope students will take away advice from current Mature and Transfer students who have already experienced the exciting transition to Trent.

11:00am - 11:30am: CHOOSE ONE OF 4 SESSIONS

  1. Get the most out of your classes: Unsure about how to get started with your classes at Trent University? This session will start you in the right direction with a discussion of the types of classes you will encounter and the importance of the course syllabus as a guide to use throughout the term. This session will present strategies for listening and notetaking during lectures to ensure that you effectively connect with lecture content.
  2. Blackboard/MyTrent/IT Orientation: Unsure of how to use Trent's online course management software, Blackboard? Want to know the ins-and-outs of your myTrent account? IN this sesion, you will learn how to log into courses, submit assignments, take tests online, viewing grades and downloading course files. This session will also show you how clasmates and work groups can communicate in Blackboard with group assignments and email.
  3. Learning in a Gen-Z Environment: Technology has changed the way we learn; we can search for information faster, collaborate more easily, and communicate from anywhere. This session will introduce you to the particulars of the technology-driven classroom, the opportunities of working with Gen-Z students, and the nuances of learning in 2018.
  4. Resources to Support: Looking for support but not sure where to go or what’s available here at Trent? No worries! This information session will let you know of all the fantastic resources and supports available to help you be your best while studying at Trent. This session will give provide a brief introduction to resources on campus such as Counselling, Peer Support, Academic Advising, Academic Skills, Careers, and many more!

11:30am - 12:00pm: CHOOSE ONE OF 4 SESSIONS

  1. Balancing Life and School: Balancing university study with an already busy adult life is challenging. This session will encourage you to reflect on your experiences and strengths and to acknowledge your busy reality. You will learn to manage both time and space and how to reflect on your study strategies to help you meet your university goals.

Efficient and Effective Reading: The foundation of university learning is the text; you will read to learn and review required content, to collect evidence for a written assignment, to deepen your understanding of your field, and to consider perspectives you support or oppose. This session will lead you through a process to read both efficiently and critically to get the most out of your reading.
  4. Resources to Support: Looking for support but not sure where to go or what’s available here at Trent? No worries! This information session will let you know of all the fantastic resources and supports available to help you be your best while studying at Trent. This session will give provide a brief introduction to resources on campus such as Counselling, Peer Support, Academic Advising, Academic Skills, Careers, and many more!

12:00pm - 1:00pm: Lunch with your College
*Lunch is provided by the Trent Colleges.

1:00pm - 2:00pm: Let's Talk Science, Humanities, and Social Science Workshops
What kind of assignments can a student in the humanities expect? What kind of degree options and decisions should a science student be aware of? What career paths might a social science student want to explore? For answers to all of these questions and more, join Academic Advising, Academic Skills, and Careers for an introduction to your major. Students will meet by academic division (humanities, social sciences, or sciences) for a team led workshop in which we will discuss the academic skills and expectations, degree planning options, and career development opportunities associated with their major.

2:00pm - 4:00pm: Discover Your Department Fair
Following the Let’s Talk Science/Humanities/Social Science workshops, we have an opportunity for you to Discover Your Department. Representation of staff, faculty and upper-year students from various departments on campus are on site to talk with you about all of the amazing opportunities in your major(s) like events, courses, study abroad options, internships, volunteering, research, and more!

2:45pm - 3:30pm: Faculty Facetime Panel
Faculty FaceTime is an opportunity to showcase that our Trent University faculty are not only great resources but they are friendly, quirky, and approachable people. This event is a great way to learn about some of your Professors who instruct first year courses through a talk-show style discussion about their interests, hobbies, academic pursuits and career paths.

3:30pm - 4:15pm: Campus Tours
Want to see more of your college? Not sure where the Athletic Centre, bookstore and other services are? Join a College and Campus tour at the end of the day to learn more about where everything is!
